Bruce Vlk is the director of programs for the Center for Politics. He is responsible for coordinating and promoting the Center's annual conferences, guest speakers and outreach activities. Some of these include the American Democracy Conference, the Virginia Political History Project, the Golden Anniversary Series and the annual student voter registration effort. In 2009, he served as a co-producer for the documentary “Locked Out: The Fall of Massive Resistance.” He also manages the Center’s involvement in the National Campaign for Political and Civic Engagement, a consortium of 22 universities with academic programs in politics.

Prior to coming to the University, Bruce worked in Virginia government as a public relations specialist for the Department of Social Services and earlier as an investigator for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

Bruce received his M.P.A. from James Madison University and his B.A. in Political Science from George Mason University. In 1998, he studied Czech politics and government at Charles University in Prague. Bruce serves as an appointed member of two volunteer boards in Nelson County, Virginia.
