Mel Carico
Mel Carico was a longtime member of the staff of the Roanoke Times, beginning in 1936 and ending with his retirement in 1981. During his career at the Times, Carico covered political news and events in state and local politics, specifically covering the General Assembly for many years. Mel Carico reported on the Linwood Holton campaign for Governor in 1969.
Charlie Davis
Charlie Davis is a principal of Davis Consultants, Inc., a Richmond-based political and public affairs consulting firm. Prior to joining the Dalton Gubernatorial Campaign in 1977 as News Director, he served as news editor for WRVA Radio in Richmond. Following Dalton's election, he was named Director of Information for the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Department and was aappointed Executive Assistant and Press Secretary for Governor Dalton in 1980. Following the Dalton Administration, Davis served as Regional Vice President of CSX Corporation before founding his own company in 1991. A native of Rocky Mount, Virginia, he is a 1968 graduate of the University of Virginia.
Paul Goldman
Paul Goldman served as Henry Howell's campaign manager for the 1977 Democratic primary, and was also the campaign manager for L. Douglas Wilder in 1989. Goldman now lives in Richmond and works as a lawyer.
Henry Howell
Henry E. "Hank" Howell, III, son of former Lieutenant Governor Henry Howell, Jr., is a partner at Doummar and Howell in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia, and also graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law. Howell is a member of the Virginia Beach Bar Association, the Norfolk-Portsmouth Bar Association, and the Virginia Trial Lawyers.
Kenny Klinge
Kenny Klinge has been involved in political campaigns since 1964. His experience includes Governor Godwin's 1973 gubernatorial campaign. He has consulted with such campaigns as Governors George Allen and Jim Gilmore of Virginia, U.S. Senator Rod Grams of Minnesota, and Congressman Tom Davis of Virginia. After serving as Regional Political Director and Director of Special Projects in Ronald Reagan's 3 Presidential Campaigns, Klinge served as Special Assistant to U.S. Secretary of Transportation Drew Lewis and Deputy Assistant Secretary under U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole. J. Kenneth Klinge is the Principal of J.K.K. Associates, a consulting firm specializing in campaign consulting, government representation and grassroots organizing.
Frank Royal
Dr. Frank Royal has run a private practice for family medicine in Richmond since 1969. During that time, he also served on the Governor's Advisory Committee on Medicare and Medicaid for seventeen years. He has also served as Secretary, Chairman, and President of the National Medical Association. Dr. Royal attended Virginia Union University and received his medical degree from Meharry Medical College. Prior to his work in medicine, Dr. Royal taught in both Lynchburg and Richmond public schools. Presently, Dr. Royal holds directorships at Crestar Financial Corporation, Chesapeake Corporation, CSX Corporation, and Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corporation, among others. Dr. Royal lives in Richmond with his wife, Pamela.
