Candidate Debates

The Center for Politics has hosted several debates during the past few years. These debates have given voters a glimpse of candidates' abilities to give unscripted responses to questions posed by not only journalists and political scientists, but by students--whose questions often were the toughest.

On October 9, 2005 The University of Virginia Center for Politics (CFP) and NBC 12 (WWBT-Richmond), hosted the only statewide televised debate featuring candidates Tim Kaine (D) and Jerry Kilgore (R), moderated by Larry J. Sabato, Director of the Center for Politics. This 2005 gubernatorial debate took place in the Richmond studios of NBC 12 and was made available via satellite for live broadcast to all television stations regardless of network affiliation.
