10th Annual American Democracy Conference
Presidential Primaries, Caucuses, and Election 2008
Elections are the seminal event in the life of our democracy. Not only do they set the direction of our republic, but also campaigns and elections shed light on the state of America's political health. It is altogether fitting then, that an examination of our democracy takes place in conjunction with current campaigns and elections. Each year, the University of Virginia Center for Politics, in partnership with National Journal's The Hotline, presents the annual American Democracy Conference. Growing from the first National Post Election Conference in 1998, these gatherings examine not only the most recent election cycle and/or primaries in hindsight, but also the current campaigns, upcoming elections, and prospects for the future of American democracy.
This year, the Center for Politics celebrates its 10th anniversary and will host its 10th Annual American Democracy Conference in the nation's capital. This conference will bring together leading journalists, Beltway insiders, political experts, and academics to examine the recent presidential primaries and caucuses, as well as the upcoming conventions, the campaigns, and Election Day 2008. Topics for discussion will include the front-loading of primaries, primary and caucus results, past and future campaign strategies, voting trends and demographics, analysis of Election 2008 from both sides of the aisle, among many more exciting topics.
This event will be held in Washington, D.C. in late 2008. It is free and open to the public, although advance registration is required. More information will soon be available about the exact date, location, schedule, participants, and other details through this website. Please check back regularly for updates and the required online registration form.
