The Center for Politics' international program, Global Perspectives on Democracy (GPD), continues to spread the message about the importance of civic engagement beyond America's shores through first-rate programming and the building of close ties with participants. GPD New Media, which took place during the summer of 2010, included college students from Bangladesh, India, and Sri Lanka. A two-year project with Afghanistan kicks-off in June 2011, and other opportunities are on the horizon. Read More.

Sabato Donates Rare Lincoln Funeral Artifact to Center for Politics
On the 146th anniversary of the funeral of President Abraham Lincoln, University Professor Larry J. Sabato has acquired and donated to the UVA Center for Politics a certified, original entrance pass required for invited guests to attend the Wednesday, April 19, 1865 funeral in the East Room of the White House. According to official accounts and newspaper reports at the time, only about 600 such passes were issued and were required for each of the distinguished guests who attended the ceremony. Read More.
Center for Politics Director of Development Chip Mann Discusses Advancement and the Center's Future
The Center was founded on big ideas, but with a shoestring budget. The Center has always been very frugal with its resources; and over the past 12 years, despite regular decreases in public funding and subsequent reductions in staff, it has still managed to expand its research and outreach. As an example of the expansion - today the Youth Leadership Initiative is one of the largest national, public service/public outreach programs offered by the University of Virginia, and is the chief civic education program of its kind in the nation.
