Republican candidate: Jeff Landry, political operative/attorney

Recent updates from the Crystal Ball

Background:

Since the seat for Louisiana’s third congressional district is up for grabs, several candidates have entered the race in the hopes of winning the August 28th primary and then the general election. The Democratic candidate is attorney Ravi Sangisetty. The Republican field of candidates include 2003 Governor candidate/ex-state House Speaker Hunt Downer, political operative/attorney Jeff Landry, and businessman Kristian Magar. The third district includes most of Louisiana’s swamplands and the political leanings of the district tend to be Democratic, although a very conservative brand of Democratic. The overall economy as well as the BP oil spill and its economic implications will probably weigh heavily on voters here, probably giving Republicans a slight advantage. So, as of now this race Likely Republican.
